Speaking someone else’s native language helps us to communicate effectively, enhancing business and trade.

It’s not just the European languages that are useful these days. According to the 2012 Pearson Education and Skills survey, 71% of employers have a need for language skills and 49% are increasingly recruiting from outside the EU to fulfil this need. Languages such as Mandarin, Russian and Arabic are used in business, but also in the care sector, driving instruction and clerical workers. In fact 27% of clerical and administration roles went unfilled in 2011 due to shortages in the UK workforce. In order for the UK to stop losing contracts in the International market, we need to achieve a global mindset and learn new languages.
